As a result, there was a body of work infused with eccentricity and mystery. Henri Rousseau was largely self-taught, which can be seen in his lack of academic training and use of sharp, unnatural colors. The New York Museum of Modern Art currently houses the work in its permanent collection. There was some debate about whether the painting was actually a forgery. An art dealer bought it from the merchant’s private collection in 1924, and it remained in his collection until 1924. The painting was shown for the first time at the 13th Salon des Indépendants in Paris. A lion gazes upon a woman sleeping on the moonlit night in this fantasy work. Henri Rousseau, a French painter from 1897, created The Sleeping Gypsy (French: La Bohémienne endormie) as an oil painting. It is currently on display at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. Instead he manages to bring us to the Oneness that connects us all to whatever subject he has chosen to explore.Credit: Henri Rousseau painted the sleeping gypsy in 1897. He always find a way to link the stories he writes with a broader stroke that applies to us all, and not simply those interested in this one artist, one painting, or other one thing. Gerstein has a way with his author's notes, as well, giving us the bits of information relative to again instilling this idea, that imagination is a useful tool, and mystery a powerful stimulator for creating. It is very unusual to find a picture book for children written in the tense and voice that Mordecai Gerstein has managed here, and it works beautifully to bring the reader into the story and also to know they have the freedom to imagine a different story behind this painting. Herein lies a tale of what may have been one story behind this, which infers knowledge and perhaps research from Rousseau's writings, but clearly has taken liberties with imagination. Recommended to anyone looking for children's stories about dreams, artists, and the powerful effect that art can have upon us, its ability to command our attention and draw a response.Īs a child, this painting is one that more than most others called me to wonder and mystery. There are moments of humor, as when the narrator informs us that Rousseau ignored all critiques, and moments of beauty as well. The illustrations here, done in acrylics, build seamlessly upon the style and aesthetics of the original painting, expanding its vision in interesting and thought-provoking ways. I really enjoyed this exploration of one possible back-story for a painting that he has found personally inspiring, especially since I have seen The Sleeping Gypsy many times, while visiting the Metropolitan Museum of Art. When Rousseau himself shows up and begins painting her, each of the animals, save the lion, has so much to say about the painting, that he ends up erased from the canvas.Īwarded a Caldecott Medal in 2004 for The Man Who Walked Between the Towers, Mordicai Gerstein is a prolific and immensely talented artist in his own right. Following a young woman as she treks across the desert, the narrative chronicles her singing, her nighttime rest, and the many animals who come to examine her. Inspired by French artist Henri Rousseau's famous painting, The Sleeping Gypsy, author/illustrator Mordicai Gerstein imagines the story - as contained in Rousseau's dream - that might lie behind the celebrated work of art.

I forget, probably 150MB memory usage with no restriction on quality (users can transmit CD quality audio). We used Mumble in the community before I came along, we ran Mumble, after I came along, I took over the server and hosted it on a 1 core, 512mb memory linux server. I used to run a gaming server(s) for about four years, we peaked at about 3500 registered users, with 200 concurrent users. Being able to manage this level of communication without it being a hopeless clusterfuck is a defining feature of effective organizations of players. This is all a difficult communication problem, but it's doubly difficult because decisions need to propagate up and down your communication hierarchy in seconds. Mumble is also flexible enough that you don't need to strictly adhere to a hierarchy, you can have your lower-level players also be able to communicated laterally to groups of specialists who are handling specific support tasks. The exact setup everyone uses varies, but at minimum you can have a room for higher-level voice chat among team leads, while each lowest-level team is isolated to their own channel and can focus on the tasks given to them by their team lead. I usually had the two side buttons on my mouse set to push-to-talk, one that for talking up the hierarchy, one for talking downward. You can set up overlapping rooms where team leads hear their team member's voice chatter and their superior's voice chatter, and have the option of communicating in either direction. This is invaluable when you need to coordinate dozens or hundreds of players in real time. The hierarchy can be set up to affect what people hear, and where they can speak. Nowadays I use my Mumble server for cooperative remote work, a job which it works perfectly for. Mumble's use case is exclusively on the team voice chats but it lacks any direct support for anything else which is likely why we never used it, even after I provided a server for free. Each combination above solved those problems, each with its own unique benefits and drawbacks. They wanted persistent chat for text and images, put up announcements to guide new players, have votes/elections, and use team voice chats during play sessions. The needs of the community didn't really change. In the beginning it was all Skype, then we switched to Ventrilo and PhpBB, then many went to FB for text, then to Teamspeak for voice, then to Slack for text again, and now Discord for both text and voice. Therefore what I have seen is people leaving both Slack and Ventrilo in order to put it all on Discord.Īs someone who managed a gaming guild since 2005, I have seen many iterations. In this article, we’ll be discussing different types of cremation glass art. People often make memory glass keepsakes, and also scatter, bury, or display the rest of the ashes (you could even do all three, which is part of why so many more people are choosing cremation). Glass blowers use the ash the same way they would use other colors or ornaments in glass it just happens to be cremation ash. This beautiful ash is artfully mixed into cremation glass. Since cremation uses a lower temperature than that of traditional glass blowing, excess carbon is burned away from the cremation ash, leaving it a brilliant white color. Blown glass uses such a small amount of cremation ash, so it’s easy to make many different pieces for a large group of people, like family and close friends. Cremation glass is an excellent way to memorialize a passed loved one. It incorporates a person or pet’s ashes from a cremation into the glass itself. You’ll find all the information and measurements you need in each frame’s product description.Cremation glass art is glass art made from cremation glass. But they can always be removed if you’d rather not use them. Picture mounts are included with a lot of the frames we sell. And this makes it easier for you to find a frame that fits, since you can frame smaller pictures in larger frames. It’s used both for decoration and to prevent your photo from touching the glass.Ī picture mount is particularly striking when framing small prints in large picture frames. It’s a piece of paper or cardboard that sits between your picture and the glass of the frame. Adjust the frame size with a picture mountĪ picture mount is like a secondary frame, inside the frame. You can also go for a much larger one and add a picture mount to play around with the perspective. Get the size as close as possible for a nice, tight frame. When choosing a frame, the number one priority is that the frame is larger than the picture you want it to hold. Here’s a size guide, measured in centimetres: For example, A3 is two times larger than A4, and A4 is two times larger than A5, and so on. Every time the number decreases, the paper doubles in size. Paper is measured in metric ‘A sizes’, most commonly ranging from A9 (smallest) to A0 (largest). Understanding paper sizes is necessary when you want to frame your favourite print or photo. For example, a black picture frame goes very well on a bright wall, while a white or silver frame does a good job of making your picture pop on a darker surface. A tip is to use contrasting colours to accentuate and bring attention to your picture. Make sure to choose the colour and style of the frame based on where you want to use it. This can contribute as much to the décor as the picture it displays. Others are fixed in size but are more ornately designed to compensate. Some frames are more basic and are available in sizes from A6 (10.5 cm x 14.8 cm) all the way to A1 (59.4 cm x 84.1 cm). IKEA sells an array of different frame styles, shapes and colours. Either way, a nice frame will help highlight, contrast or tie your pictures in with the rest of your interior design. Display some photographs of treasured memories from past adventures. Celebrate friends and family by adding their pictures to your wall. Frames offer a great way to make the people and places you love a natural part of your room. Use pictures and frames to integrate your life into your decor. There’s picture ledges, display boxes and art prints to mix into your decor, too. We have loads of colours and sizes to choose from to make your home instantly more you. Let’s put down our phones and put up frames to show off our favourite photos for a change! She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land but ultimately places her life – and her father’s crown – in jeopardy. The youngest of King Triton’s daughters and the most defiant, Ariel longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea and, while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric. While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart. “The Little Mermaid” is the beloved story of Ariel, a beautiful and spirited young mermaid with a thirst for adventure. If this is true, they wonder, who is the dreamer? Perhaps the most disturbing theory is that Nocturne is a person’s nightmare come to life. Some theorize that the summoning act affected the summoners' subconscious minds, luring Nocturne to them in their sleep. League scholars don’t know whether he truly came from the plane of dreams, or whether there are any more like him. As punishment for his crimes, they allowed summoners to call upon Nocturne in League matches, bending his will to the summoners he hates and creating his own personal nightmare. They bound him to a nexus fragment, trapping him in the physical world. The families of the victims demanded justice, but League officials were concerned that death might only return Nocturne to the place from which he came. After a period of intense study, League experts divined that Nocturne hunted summoners in their sleep, attacking them in a place where their magic was useless. He slaughtered everything he could find before summoners were able to magically confine him. Nocturne did not take his introduction to this world kindly. Immediately after, magical energy arced out from the nexus, and Nocturne appeared. Witnesses said he cried out once and then stopped breathing. Physicians were baffled until a Field Architect happened to pass out next to a nexus on the Twisted Treeline. Some could not fall asleep, slowly going mad as the nights ticked by. Some would wake up screaming, terrified and beyond consolation. This belief was put to the test when a rash of sleep-related incidents started afflicting summoners of the League. Before Nocturne, people believed that dreams were figments of their imaginations, meaningless images that flashed through the mind when one slept. “He did live shots during our morning show for several years.” He pretty much was available to do anything that we asked,” said WDBJ spokesman Mike Morgan. Others at the station said it was particularly hard for Ott, who watched the shooting unfold from the control room. Parker was raised in the Martinsville, Virginia, area and joined the station as an intern after attending James Madison University, where she was the editor of the school’s newspaper, The Breeze. Hurst wrote online that they hadn’t shared their relationship publicly but “were very much in love.” He said they had just moved in together and wanted to get married. Parker, 24, had recently moved in with another co-worker, WDBJ anchor Christ Hurst. Ward, 27, was engaged to a producer at the station, Melissa Ott, who was celebrating her last day on the job. He did not take that well,” Marks explained, adding that police had to escort him out of the station when he was fired. “Eventually after many incidents of his anger coming to the fore, we dismissed him. The gunman waited until Ward’s camera was pointed at Parker, and then fired repeatedly.įlanagan was described by Jeffrey Marks, WDBJ’s president and general manager as an “an unhappy man” and “difficult to work with,” always “looking out for people to say things he could take offense to.” The shooter walked up to the victims and stood a few feet away, but with all three in the midst of the live TV interview, none seemed to notice. Video posted on Bryce Williams’ Twitter account and Facebook page hours later showed an outstretched arm holding the handgun. Their interview subject, Vicki Gardner, was in stable condition later Wednesday after surgery for her wounds. Parker and Ward died at the scene after the gunman fired about 15 shots. WDBJ quickly switched back to the anchor at the station, her eyes large and jaw dropping as she said, “OK, not sure what happened there.” The station later went live again, reporting on their own staff as the story developed. Ward fell, too, and the camera he had been holding on his shoulder captured a fleeting image of the suspect holding a handgun. Then, at about 6:45 a.m., morning show viewers saw her suddenly scream and run, crying “Oh my God,” as she fell. The shopping mall where the incident happened is just off Smith Mountain Lake in Moneta, about 25 miles southeast of Roanoke. The live spot by reporter Alison Parker and cameraman Adam Ward was nothing out of the ordinary: They were interviewing a local official at an outdoor shopping mall for a tourism story. The station is based in Roanoke, Virginia, and serves the southwest and central part of the state. She was an avid kayaker and attended community theater events in her spare time. She also had been an intern at WDBJ-TV.Īccording to her Facebook page, Parker spent most of her life outside Martinsville, Virginia. Parker just turned 24 and attended James Madison University, where she was the editor of the school’s newspaper, The Breeze. The station’s website says Ward was 27 and a graduate of Virginia Tech. In a tweet, the station says “We love you, Alison and Adam.” No arrests have been made and the shooter has not been identified. The station then switches back to a shot of an anchor back at the station, who has a shocked expression on her face. The person is wearing black pants and a blue top and appears to be holding a handgun. The camera drops to the ground and captures what appears to be a fleeting image of the shooter. She was smiling when suddenly at least eight shots were heard. Video shows Parker interviewing someone about tourism on Bridgewater Plaza in Franklin County. Marks, general manager of WDBJ-TV, identified the two killed as Alison Parker and Adam Ward and called the shooting “a terrible crime against two fine journalists.” (AP) - A television reporter and cameraman were shot to death on the air during a live broadcast Wednesday morning from a shopping center in Virginia. Our thoughts go out to the family and friends of reporter Alison Parker, cameraman Adam Ward and WDBJ-TV. Two of our fellow journalists were shot and killed while doing their job. All of the Tiger Media Network is shocked and dismayed by the news coming out of Virginia this morning. When you run ls -la /dev/mapper/, you should see a luks-xxxxxx-xxxxx-x, or something similar. When I was trying to hack it, I found out that I was experiencing a duplicate volume groups issue (a problem described by above). To lock the file, mount /dev/.sdb1 at /media/yourUserName/sdb and then unmount it. When you insert the correct passphrase into the encrypted disk, you will be able to extract it. Change the boot configuration to the new vg-name in this case. In these steps, you will rename your volume group to Ubuntu-vg, but you will need to boot the drive from there. It is not possible to boot /dev/mapper/Ubuntu-vg2-root from other locations. This tool can be used to automatically upload the files to /media. The encrypted partition can then be mounted via the second command once it has been unlocked. After typing the first command, you will be asked for your encryption passphrase. I was unable to implement the steps in Sch*lly’s response because they did not work for me at the time, but they appear to work now. Keep in mind that you will need to specify the appropriate mount options for an encrypted drive, such as the “crypto” option. Once the decryption is complete, you can then mount the drive using the standard “mount” command. This will require you to enter the password for the drive, after which the decryption process will begin. The first step is to decrypt the drive, using the “cryptsetup” utility. Once these are in place, you can begin the process of mounting the drive. This includes the “cryptsetup” utility, as well as any relevant kernel modules. Can I Use A Bitlocker Encrypted Drive On Linux?Īssuming you have an encrypted drive that you wish to mount on a linux system, the first thing you need to do is ensure that you have the necessary tools installed. If you want to have the volume mounted automatically on boot, you can install /etc/fstab on your Linux desktop. The Gparted utility can also be used to see BitLocker data in the File System columns. If you enter the partition, you can find out how much space it is. Linux is compatible with encrypted BitLocker partitions as a standard NTFS partitions. Please read the guide for more information on how to set the file as an automatic boot method. This guide walks you through how to decrypt and mount a Linux partition from the command line. A partition that has been encrypted may be required for dual boot Windows 10 and a Linux distribution. Microsoft Windows includes a logical volume encryption system known as BitLocker. Use the fuse-encrypted command to unmount the drive. Use the cd command to change directory to the mount point. Use the ls command to list the contents of the drive. Use the dislocker command to mount the drive. You will need the encryption key to decrypt the drive. Use the gpg command to decrypt the drive. The drive will be identified by the “crypt” flag. Find the encrypted drive in the list of block devices. Use the lsblk command to list all available block devices. Open the terminal and change directory to the location of the encrypted drive. The fuse-encrypted utility Once you have installed the necessary software, you can follow the instructions below to mount and access a BitLocker-encrypted drive on Linux: 1. In order to mount and access a BitLocker-encrypted drive on Linux, you will need to install the following software: 1. BitLocker uses the AES encryption algorithm with a 256-bit key to encrypt data on a drive. It is designed to protect data by providing encryption for entire volumes. BitLocker is a full-disk encryption feature included with certain editions of Windows Vista and later. Windows encrypts its drives using the BitLocker encryption tool. This is done in order to protect the information from being accessed by unauthorized individuals. Encryption is a process of transforming readable data into an unreadable format. One of the most popular features of Linux is its ability to mount and access files from other operating systems, including Windows. From double-layered player boards that firmly hold cubes on track to the many unique illustrations- Dinosaur Island is simply gorgeous to stare at. It’s a huge box offered in two versions: one a deluxe Kickstarter package with lavish metal coins and several aesthetic upgrades, as well as a slightly more modest retail release that still spreads its many appendages of neon across your table. There’s also no denying just how beautiful this product really is. It felt to me a bit like renowned designer Vlaada Chvátil’s work (though much simpler) there’s a similar feel to his 2011 release Dungeon Petzin that discreet mechanical concepts are tied together with surprising clarity. While not always an “exciting” game, this is a clever design of interwoven mechanisms that feed interesting decisions. You make money hand over fist, and if security is not quite up to the task, you merely lose a few points. You select attractions and fill out your acreage with fantastic beasts. Dinosaur Island is not targeted at adventure its focus is more on putting you in the seat of amusement park tycoon. If you’re looking for an experience that features runaway T-rexes and velociraptors as you sneak through laboratories and jungles, you’re out of luck. Like much of the game, it’s simple, quick, and trades off excitement or deeper engagement for streamlined play. Hooligans leech your efficiency by filling up limited park space and denying you income. If you’re not so lucky, you might pick a hooligan who jumps the fence and avoids the turnstiles. If you’re lucky, you’ll pick up red-blooded patrons quick to file in and ogle your enormous beasts. This final stage has players actually filling their parks with small meeples drawn from a bag. It all happens quickly and keeps downtime minimal as play rapidly shifts into the park phase. You can increase your security level, gain supplementary income, or increase the size of your existing paddocks. The third phase happens simultaneously as players utilize workers in their personal labs to spend that precious DNA and tinker with their park options. While the DNA and dinosaur birthing is a prime attention getter, choices about upgrades and supplementary attractions such as Ferris wheels and hat stands prove significant. Since much of the game lies in virtually identical inputs and outputs that result in mathematically narrow swings, the selection of these modules is a large differentiator in player builds and downstream effects. These critical decisions feed resource acquisition and conversion heading into phase three. One of the key phases of Dinosaur Island is the public market, where you’ll purchase park attractions, buy modules for your lab, and hire specialists who grant asymmetrical powers. You’re using these once-extinct predators to attract patrons (resource three) and score victory points based on filling up your park. You’re filling your cold storage with different genetic strands (resource one) in order to construct dinos (resource two) that require ample paddock space and security. This is absolutely a resource-management game. (Your scientists are numbered 1-3 and serve as a multiplier when utilized to acquire DNA or as a necessary requirement to select the more costly dinos and paddocks.) There’s a continual philosophy here of introducing small twists to keep things just interesting enough this phase is all about utilizing randomized DNA via rolled dice, as well as apportioning workers with different values to each player. The first phase is the most straightforward as you spend scientists to claim strands of DNA or acquire new recipes to manufacture your carnivores and herbivores. In particular, the game borrows mechanisms from Euro-style predecessors featuring worker placement and public drafting. Despite a wild sprawl of side boards, card decks, and player mats, it’s a surprisingly simple design that’s easily digested. Bones of the pastĭinosaur Island is a gangly Brachiosaurus of a game as it spreads across your table and claims a healthy amount of real estate. With expansions and a two-player spinoff on the horizon, this island is only getting started. In addition to massive funding in two Kickstarter campaigns, the game sold through its first print run in retail at the pace of a striking velociraptor. No worries, though your PR firm will smooth things out.ĭinosaur Island hasn’t been out long, but it has already achieved extraordinary success. Sometimes your security won’t be up to snuff and a guest or two may get eaten. You’ll attain different strands of DNA to complete recipes and craft pre-historic beasts. Who doesn’t want to run their own dinosaur theme park? This streamlined Euro-style design has players acquiring electrified paddocks, filling them with bright pink dinosaur meeples, and raking in wheelbarrows of cash.
